Flying To Hawaii
What’s next? A little smart preparation when planning a trip to Hawaii can create a smooth journey from beginning to end.
Check-In
Hawaiian Airlines boarding passes can be issued in one of three convenient ways:
- * Print your boarding pass on-line using Hawaiian’s Hele On Web Check-In
- * Check in at our self-service airport check-in kiosks
- * Check in with an agent at the Hawaiian Airlines ticket counter
Even if you’re checking luggage, Hele On Web Check-In allows you to proceed directly to a specially designated area in Hawaiian Airlines’ ticket lobby. Simply wave your self-printed boarding pass under a bar code reader for instant recognition and printing of luggage destination tags, along with a single baggage receipt.
Since Hawaiian Airlines is known for its on-time departures on every Hawaii trip, be sure to allow yourself adequate time to check in, obtain a boarding pass, clear security and arrive at the gate. For flights between the U.S. Mainland and the Hawaiian Islands, a two-hour window is recommended.
At the airport, passengers 18 years and older are required to present proper proof of citizenship via a valid government-issued photo I.D. Boarding will be denied without this documentation.
At TSA Passenger Screening Checkpoints, all passengers are required to remove closed shoes and layered outer garments such as jackets, sweaters and blazers for X-ray before proceeding through the metal detectors. Click here for additional TSA screening details.
Baggage
Although Hawaiian Airlines leads the nation in baggage handling, it’s still a good idea to follow these standard industry bag tagging suggestions.
- * Tag all bags, whether they are being checked in or carried on. Include your name, address and contact phone number on both the outside and inside of the bag.
- * Do not check important personal items, such as medication, travel documents, keys, currency and other valuables.
Each ticketed passenger is currently limited to one piece of carry-on baggage and one personal item. You may check your stroller or car seat at the gate. Car seats, bassinets, infant carrying seats and strollers are all accepted as check-in baggage as part of the free baggage allowance for the accompanying ticketed adult passenger. (There is no separate baggage allowance for infants held in a passenger's lap.) When in excess of the two piece baggage allowance, the passenger will be charged for the excess piece (car seat, bassinet, infant carrying seat or stroller).
These items may be carried on the aircraft as your one-piece of carry-on baggage allowance, provided the item can properly fit in the overhead compartment or stowed beneath the seat in front of you. In addition to the one-piece carry-on baggage allowance, you may also carry on one personal item such as a purse, briefcase, laptop computer, backpack or similar item.

Mea Ho`okipa, the name of our service concept, literally translated means "I am host." This sentiment inspires everything we do at Hawaiian Airlines, because it's our nature and our heritage.
Drawing on more than 70 years of serving Islanders and visitors alike, Mea Ho`okipa puts emphasis on the warm and friendly caring of our people. It invites you to learn our Hawaiian history and traditions from people who live them. In its unique approach to hospitality, Mea Ho`okipa is the essence of the Islands themselves and will become a memorable aspect of your Hawaii trip.
Onboard Services Magazine was so impressed with Mea Ho`okipa that it presented Hawaiian with its highest honor, the Diamond Inflight Service Award.
As we like to say, Hawaii is everywhere Hawaiian flies. In addition to our award-winning interisland service, you'll find Hawaiian hospitality on all our flights to and from the mainland and South Pacific. Your vacation begins the moment you board Hawaiian Airlines!
